Wood flooring has an allure that can't be denied! It's warm, charming, elegant, and will work with any decor, from the most traditional to modern, California coastal, cottage, and more. Of course, there's more to choosing hardwood floors than color; however, here, from your hardwood flooring company, is a tip sheet on what to consider.
Which version do you want?
There is both engineered and solid hardwood flooring. While solid is one thickness throughout, engineered flooring is layered, giving it more stability and better handling water. Of course, they both look the same, but engineered flooring appeals to those who want both beauty and practicality.
Do you have a preferred grain pattern?
Logs are cut in different ways, giving each a unique style. See for yourself; we have a large inventory from manufacturers like Johnson, Mannington, Karastan-BelleLuxe, Hallmark, and more.
Do you want the factory finished or onsite?
Some prefer factory finished because they know what they are getting and can start the coordination process even before the floors arrive. They're also, according to some, more robust since they can be finished with aluminum oxide, which can only be used in controlled (i.e., factory) settings. There's also no odor or mess to clean up.
Others, however, prefer to finish in their own homes since there are more colors and stains, giving greater customization opportunities and controlling the homeowner. To them, that clean-up is worth the effort.
Do you want a domestic or exotic species?
Domestics are harvested within North America and tend to be warmer and more traditional, like white or red oak, maple, hickory, etc. Exotics are harvested in Brazil, Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. They are darker, more dramatic, and, some say, more contemporary. Examples are the blazing red Brazilian cherry, ebony, teak, etc.
