stone. For optimum durability, choose a brand with a 20+ mil wear
layer to protect the design layer. Most luxury vinyl flooring floats
above the subfloor, while standard sheet vinyl is glued down.
Laminate
Like luxury vinyl,
wood-based laminate is a multi-layer flooring that mimics hardwood,
ceramic, and stone. A laminate plank or tile floating floor is warm
in all seasons. Brands labeled ‘waterproof’ repel water for the
amount of time specified in the manufacturer’s instructions.
Generally, this timeframe is about one day.
Carpet
SmartStrand is one of

This brand is produced by Mohawk, a flooring company that is
well-known for innovative and high-quality products. SmartStrand,

Hardwood
There are three types
of hardwood flooring: solid unfinished, solid prefinished, and
engineered. Unfinished wood is sanded, stained, and sealed in the
home, while the other types of wood are finished in the factory.
Engineered wood, designed for floating floor construction, has a
plywood base and a hardwood surface layer. Because of this makeup,
the flooring tolerates moisture.
Stone and ceramic
To create stone
flooring, slabs are cut from quarried stones like granite and slate.
Since most stones are porous, floors need to be sealed regularly.
Tile is an alternative hard surface flooring. Glazed ceramic repels
water, while superior porcelain, a type of clay-based ceramic, is
inherently waterproof. Some porcelain tile mimics hardwood and stone.
